Centurion, by Neil Marshall

Neil Marshall had a single idea when he began directing films: never alter the time of the spectator. If someone else had shot a peplum like Centurion he would have cared to give it some spatiotemporal credibility. However, Marshall does not care that their actors spend the entire movie swearing and acting like it they were a modern American commando. Despite being full of anachronistic and absurd scenes it is a very funny movie. The meager 97 minutes also help to have fun. There are scenes so incredible as one with a group of soldiers killing a deer with stones to open the animal’s stomach to eat the grass they find inside. Why don’t they eat the deer meat instead? Why do they have to kill the animal for eating the grass? But anyway, that surrealism (and much more in the footage) is what makes the film so nice and delirious to watch.

Here you can read a review of the film (but in Spanish, sorry).
